What Was New

28/Nov/05

Woo! Two updates in a month! Anyway, this is just to tell you that the mighty MAME now supports Gradius 4. It's a bit slow however - G4 uses a combination of sprites & polygons and whenever a poly-based baddie appears, it rather grinds to a halt (even on my 3.4GHz machine). As always, the relentless march of progress will eventually bring us a machine capable of playing it full speed.

Sorry it took so long, but the new version of TempEd is available for download now.
In other news, Gradius Portable has been announced for PSP. This will feature Gradii 1-4 plus the wonderful Gradius Gaiden (only previously available for PS1 in Japan). PSP's are region-free, so it doesn't matter if it doesn't get a proper western release - the Japanese version will work fine.

Well it's been 5 years since the last release, but a new TempEd is nearly ready for release. It turns out that the Tempest Code Project isn't dead, and they have unearthed some new findings about the game's text messages.
Also on the Tempest front, Ion Pool has some ROMs for the Tempest prototypes Vortex & Aliens. With a bit of fiddling these will run in MAME, however they will not be officially added to MAME since the MAME team think these ROMs have been hacked to run on standard Tempest hardware.
